Driven by fear of dying young and forgotten, she searches for wartime heroism.
While spy sleuthing, Annie stumbles across a counterfeit passport ring linked to smuggling in German agents. She discovers forgeries aren’t the only deception. Town folk are hiding secrets. When Annie acts to prevent a friend’s treasonous mistake, she triggers a heart-wrenching chain of events. Set on a reckoning, Annie enlists help from her scientist friend Louise. They race time and deadly influenza to track a killer before he strikes again. Or before time runs out on Annie’s scarlet fever heart.

Meet Ruth
As a military brat, I moved almost every two to three years when my dad had shore duty. As I slipped into the new-kid-at-school routine, books saved me. Clutching my library card stamped with the latest town, I scooped up adventures, biographies, and mysteries. I wielded that card like a superpower. As long as there were books, I had friends no moving van could take away.
As a sometime lonely kid, I made up my own stories. On the long, cross-country car trips relocating to new military bases, I bedeviled my parents and sister with tales about my favorite doll. It’s a wonder I didn’t end up abandoned on an interstate somewhere. Another time I pinched off small sections of my pillow, tying them up with rubber bands. I sketched little character faces on the chunks, named them, and crafted outlandish adventures about each.
Before answering the siren call of writing, I taught reading and language arts at the University of Arizona and mentored student teachers in the College of Education.
Presently living in the Arizona desert, when I escape from my keyboard, I can be found hiking, swimming, catching up with family and friends, and traveling. Captivating reads and engrossing film dramas attract me like catnip, while chocolate is my ultimate kryptonite.
